Event will Generate More Than 7,200 Hotel Room Nights and $6.5 Million in Delegate Spending for Atlantic City
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Monday, October 24, 2016) More than 7,500 local school officials will gather at the Atlantic City Convention Center October 25-27 for the 2016 Annual New Jersey School Boards Workshop, the major training conference for the state’s public school district leaders.
Local Atlantic City businesses are expected to greatly benefit from the activity at the convention center this week. The estimated delegate spending is expected to reach $6.5 million. In addition, more than 7,200 room nights have been contracted by convention center visitors throughout the week.
Workshop 2016 will offer 250 training and information sessions on topics ranging from effectively integrating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics) education into the curriculum to declining enrollment and student testing.
Major programs of interest to the news media are scheduled for Tuesday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 26. They include a panel discussion with the Senate President, Assembly Speaker and other prominent legislators on issues ranging from school funding to standardized testing; the new acting commissioner of education’s first address to a major statewide education conference; and a keynote speech by an educator who led a group of economically disadvantaged students to a university-level robotics team championship.
The annual conference is co-sponsored by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, and the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials.
The 250 training and information programs at Workshop 2016 will focus on student achievement, school security, labor relations, school law, and school finance. Other sessions will cover topics ranging from bullying prevention and the use of social media to digital learning and sustainability/green schools.
Credentialed representatives of the news media are encouraged to cover Workshop 2016 on October 25 and 26. During those two days, a news room will operate on the Convention Center floor.
